logoThe GISTAL Research Centre of the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona is formed by specialists in Psychology, Pedagogy, Speech Therapists and Linguistics from three universities in Barcelona. GISTAL was born in 1989, but it was firmly consolidated in 1994. From then on, different research lines on the psychological and linguistic evolution of deaf students and other areas of diversification have been approached.
Research lines are the following: psychological and linguistic development; oral and written language acquisition; mathematics and self-concept learning.
Currently, other areas, such as family communication, peer relationship, audiovisual documents understanding, captions, effects of new technologies, cochlear implanting and digital hearing aids are being analysed throughout the evolution of the deaf child and educational strategies in order to promote the development of the inclusive school.
